A federal investigator said in a affidavit Tuesday that a man charged in connection with the fatal mass shooting at Tuskegee University on Saturday told him that he fired his gun but denied aiming at anyone.

A man accused of having a machine gun at Tuskegee University during a hail of gunfire that left one man dead and at least 16 others hurt told a federal agent that he fired his weapon during the shooting,

The shooting, which also wounded 12 people, happened early on Sunday as crowds gathered at the historically Black school to celebrate the final day of its 100th homecoming week.

Authorities said Montgomery resident Jaquez Myrick, 25, was seen leaving the scene of the shooting. Myrick was allegedly found in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device and was arrested Sunday on a federal charge of possession of a machine gun, an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman said.

A county coroner says the man killed in a homecoming weekend shooting at Tuskegee University has been identified as 18-year-old La'Tavion Johnson.

An 18-year-old "non-university individual" was killed and students were injured Sunday morning, the university said.

There were multiple videos posted on social media about a shooting at the school, which was celebrating its 100th homecoming this weekend in Alabama.

Officials reported that 25-year-old Jaquez Myrick was arrested and federally charged with possessing a machine gun. An 18-year-old non-student was tragically killed in the shooting.
