In the early hours of Sunday morning, Tuskegee Police Officer Alan Ashley heard gunshots near on-campus apartments and ran toward the shooting, court documents reveal. What he found in the aftermath of the shooting was detailed in those records as part of a federal court case involving a man arrested at the scene.

The shooting came as Tuskegee’s 100th Homecoming Week was winding down. Its football team has that Saturday played Fairfield-based HBCU Miles College. It is not clear yet what led to the shooting, which sent a large crowd scrambling and was captured on several videos posted on social media.
