Florida Republicans on Thursday passed legislation they called the “strongest” immigration enforcement bill in any state in the country, after a fight that amplified political tensions within the party as they aimed to help President Donald Trump.

The bill passed after Gov. Ron DeSantis and fellow Republicans ended a public dispute. It includes a mandatory death penalty for capital crimes committed by people without legal status.
