Indonesia hired former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert as head coach on Wednesday. The announcement came two days after the PSSI, Indonesia’s soccer federation, dismissed Shin Tae-yong despite the South Korean taking the Southeast Asian nation to within sight of a first World Cup appearance since 1938 when it competed as the Dutch East Indies.

Kluivert’s first qualifying match will be Indonesia’s trip to Australia on March 20, before they face Bahrain in Jakarta five days later. Kluivert, 48, said he preferred to play attacking football in a 4-3-3 formation but was open to being flexible.

Indonesia is currently third in Group C of the World Cup qualifying round in Asia, tied on points with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and China.
