Indiana Pacers wing Aaron Nesmith returned to the hardwood on Thursday, and he quickly reminded the Pacers and the rest of the NBA what he can do.
Nesmith had a forgettable performance Wednesday in the win over the Pistons, finishing with zero points against Detroit. The 25-year-old went 0-for-4 from the field in 32 minutes on the floor as he continues to struggle to get back to form after missing 35 games for the Pacers this season with an ankle injury.
Just a few games into the season, the Pacers lost both backup centers to a torn Achilles. Soon after, they lost Andrew Nembhard to a knee issue that cost him close to a month. Aaron Nesmith then suffered a severe ankle sprain that cost him 35 games of the season. He just recently returned and has slowly been brought back.
Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart has found himself in trouble again after he committed yet another unnecessary foul. This time, he was ejected from his team's matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday after his shove of Thomas Bryant was ruled a Flagrant 2.
Lost in the fold of a dramatic game was wing Aaron Nesmith, who made his return after missing all of November and December with an injury. Nesmith started but played only nine minutes. However, he scored an efficient nine points and brought some needed defense against Cade Cunningham.
There were six technical fouls (four by the Pistons and two by the Pacers) given out in the game and one flagrant foul. Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart was ejected in the second quarter for a flagrant foul on Thomas Bryant. Stewart also picked up a technical foul just one minute after he entered the game in the first quarter.
However, despite the theatrics, the Pacers comfortably cruised to the victory, leading by as many as 20 points late in the game and never trailing. The win came in large part thanks to Pascal Siakam, who scored 37 points to record his first 30-point game of the season and notch a new career-high as a Pacer.
The Detroit Pistons may not be players for a star at the trade deadline, but they are getting mentioned in almost every rumor. That’s because they are sitting on $14 million in cap space, the only team in the league to have any, and other teams may need to use it to pull off blockbuster deals.
