Work is underway to rebuild the bridge over the Big Sioux River that was damaged during summer flooding and later demolished.

In 1857, the Western Land Company sent a group to Dakota Territory to found a town near the falls of the Big Sioux River. One of those people apart of the group was 22-year-old Dr. Josiah Phillips.

SIOUX CITY — Construction crews were moving dirt, along the Iowa side of the Big Sioux River, Thursday, in preparation to rebuild a railroad bridge connecting North Sioux City and Sioux City.
